Requirements & Certificates
BA/BS (54 credit hours)
The major coursework includes 27 required credits that are made up of classes that provide foundational knowledge about the field of educational psychology. The required coursework also includes a practicum or capstone project to demonstrate application of the knowledge gained from the undergraduate coursework. There are 27 additional credits required for the major that are made up of educational psychology elective courses that can be chosen based on interest and personal benefit for students.
Minor (18 credit hours)
The minor in educational psychology includes one required course that is an introduction to the field of educational psychology. The remaining five courses can be chosen from a variety of educational psychology electives.
Certifications
Coursework and National Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis
The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is a national agency that credentials professionals in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). These credentials are most often associated with working with children with autism spectrum disorder, but the principles can be applied across a variety of contexts. Training in the concepts, principles, and application of ABA can benefit students across a variety of majors who plan to go into all professions. ABA is the science of behavior change and the application of this science to human behavior.
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
RBT’s are most often providing in-home or center-based treatment to individuals with autism spectrum disorder or working in the school setting. One of our Educational Psychology courses (ED PS 2000) provides the 40 hour training required for certification.
In order to become an RBT, an individual must meet the following requirements:
- Education: A high school level education
- Age: be at least 18 years old
- Background: Pass a background check
- Training: successfully participate in 40 hours of ABA training
- Assessment: Pass a competency assessment and an online test
Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA)
BCaBA’s provide supervision to RBT’s and help develop treatment programs while working under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Our undergraduate program includes 5 courses that provide the coursework requirement for the BCaBA credential.

In order for someone to qualify for the BCaBA credential, they must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Complete a bachelor’s degree
- Training: Follow one of the four pathways to meet coursework requirements
- Experience: Complete supervised fieldwork hours
- Assessment: Pass an online examination
