Instructional Design and Educational Technology (IDET) is a Master's degree program in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Utah.

The program prepares students to analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate technology-based instruction for educational contexts. Students pursuing this degree will learn the theoretical issues associated with technology-supported instruction and the applications of technology to support best-teaching practices.

"ID"

The instructional design "ID" component of the program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify learner needs and goals and to develop instructional systems to meet those needs and goals.

"ET"

The educational technology "ET" component provides students with knowledge and skills necessary to create technology-based learning environments in which learner needs and goals are met with and supported by technology.

Degrees

Master in Education (M.Ed.): 30 credit hours across 5 semesters (2 academic years and summer)
Master in Science (M.S): 36 credit hours including a thesis across 5 semesters (2 academic years and summer)
Undergraduate 4 + 1 Program: Earn your M.Ed. or M.S. Degree by combining your last year of your undergraduate degree in Educational Psychology with your first year of the IDET master's program! You will earn a marketable, competitive master's degree with one additional year of study!

Students focus much of their course work on school-based projects or on projects that address practical problems and theoretical issues using technology. Courses are offered during the evening hours and during the University's summer session.

A cohort of students begins each Fall semester, and students complete their program of study in less than two years (two academic years plus the intervening summer).
