What is a Training Clinic?

The Utah Community Mental Health Clinic is a department training clinic. This means that all of our clinicians are students, either within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program or the Counseling Psychology program. All student clinicians are supervised at multiple levels to ensure that the therapy they provide to their clients meets their clients' needs.

Student Clinicians, Quality Care

Video Recording

All student clinicians must record their therapy sessions with you for training purposes. Recordings allow our clinicians to review their tape and track their own training and development as therapists. All recordings are encrypted and held on a secure server that is HIPAA and FERPA-compliant. Learn more about the software that is used, and read about how these recordings are stored.

Individual Supervision

Your therapist receives weekly individual supervision from their individual supervisor. The content of supervision often varies from week to week, but the overarching goal of supervision is to review the therapy that your therapist is providing to ensure you receive quality care.

Faculty Supervision

In addition to individual supervision, all student clinicians are supervised by a core faculty member within the Counseling and Counseling Psychology faculty. The supervision provided by faculty ensures that all student clinicians receive multiple layers of supervision and support.
