Janiece Pompa, Ph.D.

Clinical and Research Interests

Dr. Pompa’s interests include psychological and neuropsychological assessment with children and adults with traumatic brain injuries, learning disabilities, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, and other developmental disorders. She also is interested in nondiscriminatory psychological assessment of multicultural children and adults. 

Biography

Dr. Pompa is a Career-Line Professor in the School Psychology Program of the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Utah. She received her Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology with a minor in Neuropsychology from Michigan State University in 1983. Dr. Pompa was the Director of Psychology at University Neuropsychiatric Institute and at LDS Hospital, and has worked at numerous other hospitals and clinics in Salt Lake City. Since 1995, she has been the Director of the University of Utah’s Educational Assessment and Student Services Clinic, an outpatient clinic on campus providing assessment and treatment for children, adolescents and adults with learning, psychological and developmental disorders.

Professional Activities

Dr. Pompa has long been involved with service to professional organizations. She was on the Psychology board of the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, has been a member-at-large on the board of the Utah Association of School Psychologists, is past-president of the Utah Psychological Association, and has served on various committees and received awards pertaining to multicultural and gender diversity. In 2013, Dr. Pompa was also the first College of Education Career-Line faculty member elected to the University of Utah faculty senate.

 

Teaching and Publications

Dr. Pompa teaches the following required courses: Clinic Practicum, Child Therapy and Interventions, Neuropsychological Bases of Behavior, Applied Neuropsychological Assessment, and Multicultural Assessment in the Schools. She has published chapters and articles on various topics, including clinical interviewing, reading disability, mood disorders and the neuropsychological effects of traumatic brain injury and other neurologic disorders.
