The Great Psychotherapy Debate
Zac Imel is co-author of the second edition of The Great Psychotherapy Debate. The
first edition presented a comprehensive empirical review of what was known about how
psychotherapy works and is widely considered one of the most influential books on
the science of psychotherapy in the past 2 decades. The second edition has been updated
and revised to expand the presentation of the Contextual Model of psychotherapy, which
is derived from a scientific understanding of how humans heal in a social context.
Using this model, the authors explain findings from a vast array of psychotherapy
studies. The new edition also includes a history of healing practices, medicine and
psychotherapy, an examination of how and why treatment effectiveness varies across
therapists, and a thorough review of the research on common factors that may explain
the effects of many different interventions including the patient-therapist alliance,
the modulation of expectations, and empathy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0805857095/
